RYA Catamaran Training in Greece
About the Catamaran Course
- Most suitable courses for Catamaran owners or future Catamaran owners.
- Generally learning how to sail should be done on a monohull sailboat. The feeling of sailing, the amount a sailboat heels over depending on your actions/reefing, the thrill is so much different on a monohull.
- On the other side a catamaran is spacier, doesn’t heel, and has two engines so even if sailing principles of course are the same there are minor differences and if you are a catamaran owner you can gain catamaran-specific experience with those two courses.
About The RYA Competent Crew course

About the RYA Day Skipper Certificate
The RYA Day Skipper certificate is the minimum accepted certificate by most authorities worldwide to charter a yacht. In addition, the holders of an RYA Day Skipper certificate can apply to the RYA for an ICC ( International Certificate of Competence ) which is an internationally recognized qualification.
The participants of the RYA Skipper practical course are expected to have the required level of theory knowledge ( Day Skipper theory level ). This 6-day practical course includes lots of navigation, chart work, and sailing and therefore there is not enough time for the instructor to teach theory from scratch. Your instructor though will coach and guide you in order to fill any gaps you have in theory and navigation.

Next Steps After the RYA Catamaran Training
After the RYA Catamaran Training course, you will be given an individual full debrief from your instructor who will advise you on the next steps.
Usually the next step after the Competent Crew course is the Day Skipper theory course followed by the Day Skipper practical course.
The Day Skipper course is the first training course you can attend to skipper a yacht. Expanding your knowledge and gaining experience in the world of yachting is a nonstop procedure. After you have gained adequate experience as a Day Skipper the next step is usually the RYA Coastal Skipper course which is the stepping stone for attending a Yachtmaster Coastal or offshore preparation and exam to gain your professional qualifications.
